Should your Company invest in an Automatic Standby Generator?

Owning and operating your own business means that everything falls on your shoulders. It can be very stressful at times. One thing that can put you at ease is losing power if you have an Automatic Standby Generator. While it may seem uncommon for some to have the power go out in your building, but it does happen and when it does, you can suffer from significant loss. When the power goes out, your business operations will be put on hold until your power is restored. If the power is out for an extended period of time, your business income continues to suffer, sometimes until it has made a severe impact on your assets. The importance of purchasing a backup generator for your business is something that should be considered as part of your overall disaster preparedness.

There are plenty of reasons to purchase an Automatic Standby Generator for your business, all of which will help to improve your business and prevent potential disastrous situations as a result of loss of your main power source.

Avoiding Business Interruptions – If there is a power outage in your area that affects your company’s building, then business operations will freeze. In order to avoid these business interruptions, you should think about investing in an Automatic Standby Generator, so that you can continue business as normal.

Consistent Power Supply – Aside from business interruptions, you also want consistent power supply for other reasons. The power in your building is needed for electrical appliances, equipment, security systems, A/C units, and other items that are run by electricity. If the power is disrupted, all of these items would stop working in your business.

Cost Savings – Many types of equipment and machinery is run on electricity when your company goes without power, all of this will stop functioning normally. The costs associated with other forms of backup power are much higher than those associated with having a backup generator, not to mention the cost of replacing anything that malfunction during the power outage, or the loss of business when it was interrupted.

If you’re concerned with losing business from possible power outages, then you should consider the importance of purchasing an Automatic Standby Generator for your business.

Tis' the Season-- Holiday lighting tips

It is that time of year again, time to get those holiday decorations out and decorate your home! However it is important to be safe as possible when putting up lights both inside and outside of your home. When you string up lights in an around your home, you're increasing your chances of an electrical malfunction. Make sure you follow these tips before and during lighting setup.

Your lights both exterior and interior require some careful inspection prior to hooking them up. One of the most common causes of fires around the holidays are faulty string lighting. In order to avoid any potential electrical fires, it's important to:

- Carefully inspect all light strands, cords and bulbs. This is one of the biggest causes of holiday fires. If your lights show any signs of fraying or tearing, it is essential to throw these lights away. Using these lights significantly increase your chances of a fire. If you attempt to repair these strands, you can face electrocution. It's best to invest in new lights at this point.

- Use the correct outlet. It's essential to use a grounded outlet when putting up lights for the holidays. Especially for outdoor lights. This greatly reduces the risk of shorts and shocks in the wiring. Don't gamble with the outlets you use - its better the be safe then sorry

- Turn off lights when not in use. We know lights look good, but it's best to leave them off when you're not at home. This will help you save on your electric bill and reduce the risk of fire. Lights that are left on too long can overheat and potentially cause a fire.

- Only use outdoor lights outdoors. It's important to use the lights only for their intended purpose. Check the tag on the strand for proper identification. Outdoor lights have a different rating and may not be suited for indoor use due to their voltage or the amount of heat they produce.

Happy Holidays!

Cold Weather Kit- Generac Generators

Fall is here and winter will be here before you know it! It’s time to get your generator up to par for that brutally cold weather. All generator owners should consider the installation of a Cold Weather Kit for your generator. This helps protect your generator from the Winter Cold.

When the temperature falls below an acceptable level, the thermostat activates the crankcase oil heater in order to maintain a steady temperate. This will make it easier for the engine to turn over, reducing strain on your generator and results in faster start-up.

We recommend the cold weather kit for those generators that are on platforms, exposed to wind chill, and in areas where the temperature falls below 32 degrees.

Give us a call to get yours today and we can install one for you!

Springtime Electrical Checkup!

Spring is the perfect time to do many things, like get your oil changed in your car, clean up your yard etc. It is also a perfect time to give your home an electrical safety checkup!

  1. Are your outlets and switches working correctly? If they are not working properly this could be a hazard in your home because the wiring could be unsafe which could lead to a fire.
  2. Are your outlets or switches feeling warm? If you go to touch an outlet or switch and they feel hot, this could indicate there is a problem with the wiring in your home. You should stop using the outlet right away and have an electrician (or us Quality Electric Service :) ) come out to troubleshoot it.
  3. Are your outlets or switches discolored? Discoloration of outlets and switches can mean that there is heat building up with the connections. Don't just ignore them, if that happens then it could cause melting or ever a fire.
  4. Are you hearing sizzling, buzzing, or crackling noises? Those noises usually signal unsafe wiring or a loose connection somewhere.
At Quality Electric we care about your families safety and needs along with your homes safety. That is why if you have any of those issues we encourage you to call us right away to prevent electrical fires, power outages and more. Call us today to schedule an appointment! 609.861.1409

Are you ready for the 2017 Hurricane Season?

Hurricane season is rapidly approaching us with only a little over a month away. This year NOAA has predicted 12 total named storms, 6 will turn into hurricanes and 2 will be a category 3 or higher hurricane.

We all know that hurricanes  can produce extremely high, dangerous winds, along with lightning and hail.  Power outages are all too common once a hurricane has stricken, and they are to be expected.  The high winds can take down power poles and cause damage to power plants.  It can take weeks and in many cases, months before power company personnel are able to fully restore power.

Being without power for hours even days at a time become such an inconvenience and an expensive one too. Your food can spoil, mold grows and basements that are prone to flooding are robbed of their working sump pump and being to take on water. These types of situations is where an Automatic Home Standby Generac Generator comes in handy. Once your electric goes out your generator turns on automatically, all hands free. The unit is wired into the homes electrical panel, eliminating extension cords. It begins powering heat, air condition, and well pumps moments after utility power fails. This means when it senses utility power has returned it safely shuts itself down and returns to standby mode.
So how will you prepare for this year’s hurricane season? Hopefully investing in a Generac Generator!

Be extremely prepared for a power outage.

The late days of summer/ early days of fall tend to bring some severe thunderstorms with them. With severe thunderstorms it can cause widespread power outages. Regardless of the duration of the power outage, you should make sure your family is very prepared when the power goes out. Since September is National Preparedness Month

Stock up! - Keep a stock easy to make meals that don't require electricity to repair. Meals like peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, cans of soup, cans of fruit. When you stock up plan to feed each member of the family, including pets, for three days without power. Be sure to keep a manual can opener around as well. Invest in battery powered fans or heaters so that you can stay comfortable during any season!

Think through your powered life - Everyday you use electricity in ways that you take for granted. When you lose electricity all these conveniences quickly turn into struggles. You should take a few minutes to learn how to disconnect your garage door opener so your car is not trapped. Also make sure you have car chargers for your cell phones so whenever you go into your car, you can charge up your cell phone. Have a battery powered radio on hand so you can hear updates on local weather reports and other important news. Don't forget most importantly stock up on some extra batteries.

Write it down - It is so easy to become reliant on technology. Make sure you take  few moments to write down family and emergency contact information. Be sure to include numbers of your local electric company as well as gas company. It is very important you take the time to correctly label circuits and fuses in the fuse box to help identify any blown fuses.

Make the most of the slow life - Stock up on a few game boards and other forms of entertainment that do not require electricity. Board games, books, cards can help keep the children entertained and even yourself.

Prep your first aid kit - Having a first aid kit is essential part of being prepared for a power outage. Be sure to have the basics as well as any special medications your family needs. If anyone in your household requires medical equipment that is electrical powered, please take the time to think about investing in a Genearc home standby generator.

Power outages are very inconvenient, but unfortunately a common experience in the late summer / early fall months. Be sure to be prepared before the power outages happen. If you are not interested in taking all that action, consider investing in a Generac home standby generator.  We are a Generac power pro dealer with 5 factory trained technicians. Give us a call and we will give you a FREE in-home estimate.
