Baby proofing everything electrical

Whether you like it or not, electrical products are a huge part of our daily lives. You find them in every room of your home. Power outlets, extension cords, phone chargers, computer cables and the list goes on and on. Sadly, none of these electrical products were designed with the baby's safety in mind.  It's very important to childproof your home, the right way so here are some tips below:

  • Electrical Outlets: You should try to have tamper resistance outlets. Compared to normal outlets these outlets look like they have been filled with plastic. They are actually spring loaded shutters that close off the openings of contact. The only time the shutters will open is when then are pushed at the same time (I.E. plugging something into the outlet). Since the baby will not be able to push both openings open at once, the baby will be unable to to poke anything into the outlet.
  • Electrical Outlet Caps: Another good and inexpensive way to baby proof an outlet is to purchase electrical outlet caps. They go right into the outlet and have a flat surface on the outside to make it hard for the baby to get the covers out. The only down side to these is when you have to use the outlet you have to remove the cap and put them back on when you are done with the outlet.
  • Electrical Outlet Covers: This is a great way to have the baby stop unplugging your items. The cover sits on top of your existing outlet. The clear plastic cover allows you to see what is plugged in. Unlike other baby proofing products the cover is easy to remove for adults yet difficult for children.
  • Child Proof Power Strip Covers: Power strips are commonly used
in areas of the home which hold many electrical products in one area. They usually lay one the ground which makes it easy access for a child to play with the strip. A child proof power strip is a good solution to help. The cover slides over your current power strip and has a cut out for the cords to hang out.
